The election’s on us, and that alone brings up a ton of internal conflict. Let’s look at why this stuff hits us so hard, through a nervous system lens.
🔥We’re activated because there’s life threat on the line, whether that’s Palestinians or trans kids in Texas. If you’re feeling stressed, it’s because lives are at stake—and your nervous system knows it.
🔥We’re activated because it’s hard to orient to what’s real in all this. We’ve got politicians who don’t keep their promises, track records that don’t always line up, and stakes that couldn’t be higher. How do we make an informed choice?
🔥We’re activated because we have just enough power to think we should do something. We’re one of the most privileged countries on the planet 🌍, and what we decide affects people who don’t even get a vote in this.
🔥We’re activated because so many of us feel helpless. For most of us, it’s not like we’re the ones actually in the driver’s seat here. We can call, sign, and protest all day—but how much is actually moving the needle toward the change we need? It’s hard to keep up the action when we don’t see a response.
🔥We’re activated because burnout has become the norm. The cost of living keeps rising, and our culture of capitalism and hyper-individualism demands more and more. We work to get ahead, but the ads, spam texts, doom scrolling, TV binges, retail therapy, all of it—it’s shredding our nervous systems, bit by bit.
And now we’ve got to go full private eye 🕵️♀️, trying to figure out who to trust with our vote because safety is on the ballot.
Burnout doesn’t care how much privilege you’ve got or what’s in your bank account—your nervous system only has so much to give before it’s tapped.
So what now? What the hell do we do here? ⚡
What if all that activation could actually be a strange source of liberation instead of weighing us down?
🔥 Stress about lives at stake? That’s real. Take it in. This is your body’s way of telling you the threat is serious. Let it validate you.
🧭 Your body is trying to find a path to safety. You’re doing your best to orient to what you know. You can’t know what you don’t know. Period.
⚡ You do have power. We can vote in this country; most of the world is affected by us but can’t. That’s privilege.
⏳ If you’re trying to save the world, yeah, you’re gonna feel helpless. What if you just did your best? You literally don’t have control over the rest, and to think you do is some kind of God complex in action.
💤 Your burnout is real. No apology needed. You’re a human with a nervous system, not a machine. Use what energy you’ve got where it matters. Sleep is your ultimate recharger. In the morning, when you’re running on a full tank, hit the stuff that’ll either fuel you back up or put a real dent in the exhaustion. And I hope collective safety is on your list of priorities. If not, what kind of community are we even building?
✨ Let go of making a perfect choice. There is no ideal option. But sitting it out is not the move. Venting on social? Fine. But don’t stop there—it’s like complaining to friends about your partner instead of taking it to them directly. We need to bring this to the powers that be and let our nation have the real conversations we need to be having.
👉 So here’s what to do: Find your polling place, set a time, and go get it done. Early voting for the November 5, 2024, election runs from October 21 – November 1. Wear your freaky deaky costumes, whatever gets you there—but make it count. 🗳
