Trauma happens across all lived experiences and you can’t tell who has experienced trauma or not just by looking at someone.
Many trauma survivors get really good at hiding it. Some survive by excelling at everything and anything that they can. That’s what we do sometimes to self-preserve. ⠀
It’s also worth saying that many trauma survivors cultivate a great deal of healing around their trauma and land in a genuinely better place. They may have reclaimed themselves to such an extent that they exude the cool confidence that others envy. They may be so much better, that someone from the outside could look at them and think that they’ve never experienced anything hard.⠀
People across every identity and socioeconomic status can be haunted by experiences that would haunt anyone until they got some resolution around it. ⠀
For those of you doing a lot of hiding – I see you. I hear you. I don’t judge you. Your pain is real and there is a strong coalition of people ready to be there for you.
